1957–1958 Buick Century Carpet & Floor Mat Replacement – Buyer's Guide

June 28, 2025

The 1957–1958 Buick Century sits proudly in the golden era of American automotive design—defined by sweeping chrome, bold styling, and V8 performance. While not known by a specific enthusiast shorthand like “Tri-Five” Chevys, the Century still commands attention at car shows and restoration garages alike. Known for its unique body proportions and upscale trim, it bridged the performance of Buick’s smaller bodies with the powertrains from larger cars—earning it a reputation as a true “gentleman’s hot rod.”

Why Replace the Carpet in Your Buick Century?

After more than 60 years, it’s common to find worn, discolored, or musty carpets in original vehicles. Mold, moisture, odor, or even rust underneath are all common culprits. Replacing the carpet can breathe new life into your Century’s cabin and increase resale value, comfort, and personal pride in ownership. Whether you’re restoring to stock or retro-modding, new carpet is a must-have step.

Material Types: Loop vs Daytona (Period-Correct Options)

Our Factory Interiors listings for the 1957–58 Buick Century include two classic-era materials:

  • Loop Carpet – The most common original material. This tight-looped style matches what Buick installed at the factory in this era.
  • Daytona Carpet – Another period-correct material that was also available as an OEM option during this time. Daytona features a more textured, knobby loop, popular in higher-end interiors and often used for retro-rod builds for visual flair and character.

Both materials are available in our cut & sewn carpet kits. This means panels are precisely measured, cut, and stitched to contour around transmission tunnels, floor curves, and footwells—just like GM did in the '50s before molded carpets became the norm.

Installation Tips for Classic Buick Projects

  • Test fit before trimming—these cut & sewn kits are designed to be the best matching solution for original floors.
  • Use spray adhesive or carpet glue to help contour tight spots like the driveshaft tunnel.
  • Heel pads (when shown) can be repositioned or left loose for RH drive conversions on symmetrical pans—contact us if needed at the time of order.
  • Always inspect floor pans for rust while the old carpet is out. Wire-wheel and seal as needed before installing your new carpet.

Jute Padding & Interior Comfort

All of our Century carpet kits come with jute padding already attached. This layer provides added cushioning, sound deadening, and insulation under the carpet. For cut & sewn kits, this padding is typically hand-glued to the back of each section before shipping.

Matching Floor Mats & Trunk Mats

Factory Interiors also carries matching 4-piece floor mats in both Loop and Daytona materials. These die-cut mats can be ordered with officially licensed Buick logos for that finishing touch.

Additionally, a Burtex trunk mat is available to complete the interior restoration. Burtex replicates the original trunk liner material used in many midcentury GM vehicles.
