The Coverlay Story

Coverlay Manufacturing originated in Denver, Colorado in 1982. Originally incorporated as Import Auto Products, Ltd., the company began by importing auto products for foreign vehicles — but quickly pivoted to manufacturing dash covers after recognizing the tremendous need for them across both foreign and domestic vehicles.

After roughly a decade in Colorado, founder and CEO Paul Cornwell — a U.S. Army veteran and CPA with a background in the automotive industry — moved the plant to San Angelo, Texas. Known for its warm, dry climate, San Angelo proved ideal for manufacturing, and Coverlay still operates from its facility there today. As the trademarked Coverlay® brand name gained recognition throughout the auto industry, the corporation officially became Coverlay Manufacturing Inc. in 1994.

Following the success of its dash cover line, Coverlay expanded into replacement door panels, kick panels, armrests, door inserts, and more — and the company continues to grow its product range today.
